Outpatient Surgery
Dr. Ruth McLarty

As the daughter of a general practice physician and a nurse who both loved caring for patients, I found medicine a natural choice. As a child I was challenged to appropriately answer patient phone call and take accurate messages when my parents weren’t available. Although I was unable to spell things like penicillin, I gave my parents some amusement with my phonetic spellings. At least they knew what the message meant. During teenage summers I enjoyed being able to put in some time as an office assistant.
Surgical rotations in medical school helped me realize how much I enjoyed the operating room, ICU and the way my surgical mentors cared for their patients, both in the office and in the hospital. The operative part of surgical practice is a privilege and never gets old, but the office and hospital practice outside the OR touches my heart.
I enjoy nature, animals, hiking, camping, music, cooking and spending time with loved ones.
