It is important for people with hypertension, diabetes or a family history of glaucoma and for all people over the age of 55 to get regular eye exams. Most insurance plans will cover these exams. An eye screening is also recommended if you have any of the following symptoms:
- Headaches when reading, watching TV or the computer
- A sandy-gritty irritation or burning in the eyes
- Cloudy or blurry vision
- Problems with light, such as headlights that seem too bright, glare from lamps or very bright sunlight
- Colors that seem faded
- Poor night vision
- Double or multiple vision
- Optical aids such as eyeglasses or contact lenses are no longer effective
- Loss of side vision
- An inability to adjust the eye to darkened rooms
- Difficulty focusing on close work
- Rainbow colored rings or halos around lights
- Frequent changes in glasses or contact lenses
